Tunachohifadhi.

Siku ya 1 — Roho Mtakatifu Ni NaniDay 1 — Who the Holy Spirit Is

Of all the doctrines, the Holy Spirit is the one most often felt and least often defined. So the preacher must begin where confusion begins: the Spirit is not an it, not a vague force or influence, but a divine Person — the third Person of the Trinity, fully God along with the Father and the Son. He is personal: He speaks, He teaches, He can be grieved, He has a will. Settle this first, because a hearer who thinks of the Spirit as electricity will try to use Him; a hearer who knows the Spirit is a Person will walk with Him.

— Yohana 16:13 (SUV)"When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth." — John 16:13 (NKJV)

(Uti wa mgongo wa fundisho kwa sehemu hii — nafsi na kazi ya Roho — unalingana na Teolojia ya Utaratibu, Sehemu ya 4; waelekeze wanafunzi huko kwa maelezo kamili zaidi.)(Doctrinal backbone for this unit — the person and work of the Spirit — corresponds to Systematic Theology Unit 4; point students there for the fuller treatment.)

Siku ya 2 — Roho Mtakatifu Hufanya NiniDay 2 — What the Holy Spirit Does

The doctrine of the Spirit answers two questions, as the course’s own framework puts it: who is the Holy Spirit? and what is the work of the Holy Spirit? Day 1 answered the first. The work is best preached as a series of definite acts in the life of the believer, each one resting on its own text. That is the homiletical move: a doctrine that feels misty becomes preachable the moment it is broken into specific, texted works.

Neno kiini: kazi. Neno kiini linazaa hoja nne, kila moja ikiwa imefungwa kwenye kifungu chake:Subject: the work of the Holy Spirit. Interrogative: “What does the Holy Spirit do in the believer?” Keyword: works. The keyword yields four points, each anchored to its own text:

Hoja (neno kiini: kazi)Point (keyword: works)Kifungu cha msingiAnchor text
1. Anazaa upya — anatoa kuzaliwa upya1. He regenerates — gives new birthTito 3:5; Yohana 3:5–6Titus 3:5; John 3:5–6
2. Anakaa ndani — anaishi ndani ya mwaminio2. He indwells — lives in the believer1 Wakorintho 6:19; Warumi 8:91 Corinthians 6:19; Romans 8:9
3. Anajaza na kutia nguvu — kwa utakatifu na ushuhuda3. He fills and empowers — for holiness and witnessWaefeso 5:18; Matendo 1:8Ephesians 5:18; Acts 1:8
4. Anatia muhuri — anahakikisha urithi wetu4. He seals — guarantees our inheritanceWaefeso 1:13–14Ephesians 1:13–14

Acha kila kazi ieleweke kwa jinsi ilivyo — mambo manne dhahiri ambayo Roho hufanya, si hali nne za moyo anazotutia ndani yake.Let each work be understood for what it is — four definite things the Spirit does, not four moods He puts us in.

1. Anazaa upya — Anatoa kuzaliwa upya (Tito 3:5; Yohana 3:5–6). He regenerates — He gives new birth (Titus 3:5; John 3:5–6). The first work is the one that makes a Christian a Christian. We are not born again by trying harder, nor by religion, nor by good blood; we are born of the Spirit. As a man is helpless to arrange his own first birth, so he is helpless to arrange his second; the wind blows where it wishes, and the new life is the Spirit’s gift, not the sinner’s achievement. Regeneration is not turning over a new leaf — it is receiving a new heart.

He indwells — He lives in the believer (1 Corinthians 6:19; Romans 8:9). Having given new life, the Spirit moves in to stay. This work is developed in full below, for it is the one we will preach as our example — God no longer dwelling in a temple of stone, but in the believer himself.

He fills and empowers — for holiness and witness (Ephesians 5:18; Acts 1:8). Regeneration happens once; filling is meant to happen again and again. “Be filled with the Spirit” is a command in the present tense — keep on being filled. The same disciples who fled at the cross stood up at Pentecost and could not be silenced, not because they had grown braver but because they had been filled. The believer is a vessel: emptied of self, he is filled for holiness within and for witness without. A Spirit-filled life is not a louder life; it is a life through which Christ is unmistakable. And when the Spirit fills a man, it can look from the outside like drunkenness — and Scripture knows it. When Hannah prayed in the temple, her lips moving without a sound, Eli took her for a drunken woman: “How long will you be drunk? Put away your wine” (1 Samuel 1:14). When the Spirit fell at Pentecost, the crowd mocked, “They are full of new wine,” and Peter had to answer that it was only the third hour of the day, far too early for that (Acts 2:13–15). And it is no accident that Paul sets the two side by side: “do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). The resemblance is real — an overflow, a gladness that spills past ordinary reserve — but the origin is opposite. The one filling is poured in from a bottle and leaves a man less than himself; the other is poured in from God and makes him more than himself. Paul does not deny that a man longs to be filled; he only tells him what to be filled with.

4. Anatia muhuri — Anahakikisha urithi wetu (Waefeso 1:13–14). He seals — He guarantees our inheritance (Ephesians 1:13–14). In the ancient world a king would write a letter, fold it, pour hot wax across the fold, and press his signet down into the wax. The letter was verified by the seal — the king’s own mark, proof it was truly his. When you trusted Christ, “you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance.” So what is the seal that proves you belong to God? Not a feeling. Not your performance. It is the Holy Spirit Himself, pressed down into a human life — and as wax takes the shape of the signet, the sealed believer slowly takes the shape of the One who sealed him.

Hebu nikuambie nilipojifunza muhuri huo unavyoonekana. Miaka mingi iliyopita nilikuwa nimesimama katika foleni kwenye mkahawa wa hamburger, nisifikiri jambo lo lote hasa, wakati mtu aliyekuwa kando yangu — mgeni, nasi tulikuwa tumebadilishana neno moja au mawili tu — aligeuka akanitazama akasema, “Wewe ni Mkristo, sivyo?” Nikasema ndiyo. Nikamwuliza alijuaje. Akasema, “Niliweza kuliona usoni mwako.” Nimelitafakari tukio hilo kwa miaka mingi. Sikuwa nimesema neno lo lote. Nilikuwa nimesimama tu pale. Let me tell you when I learned what that seal looks like. Years ago I was standing in line at a hamburger place, thinking of nothing in particular, when the man next to me — a stranger, and we had traded only a word or two — turned and looked at me and said, “You’re a Christian, aren’t you?” I said yes. I asked him how he knew. He said, “I could see it in your face.” I have turned that moment over for years. I had said nothing. I had only been standing there. Was Christ in me that moment, so truly that I bore the mark of Him on my face — even for an instant — where a stranger could read it? Could that be the seal of the Spirit, surfacing for a moment in an ordinary face in an ordinary line? I believe it was. The wax had borne the signet all along; that day the light caught it, and another man saw whose I was before I ever said a word. That is what a seal is for. A seal no one can read seals nothing — but the Spirit’s seal is meant to show, until others can see Christ in us, sometimes even in our faces.

Siku ya 4 — Kukuza Hoja (U-M-K) na VielelezoDay 4 — Developing a Point (E-A-I) and Illustrations

Hoja ya 2, “Anakaa ndani” (1 Wakorintho 6:19), ikikuzwa kikamilifu:Point 2, “He indwells” (1 Corinthians 6:19), developed in full:

Mungu hajahamia mbali — amehamia ndani.Explanation of the text. “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you.” Under the old covenant God dwelt in a temple of stone; now, by the Spirit, the believer himself is the temple. God has not moved to a distance — He has moved in.
Roho yule yule aliyemfufua Yesu anaishi ndani yako. Jambo hilo linauheshimu mwili, linawafariji walio wapweke, na linatufanya tuwe na kiasi — hatuubebi uwepo wa Mungu kuingia katika jambo lo lote ambalo tungeona aibu kulileta mbele Zake.Application of the text. So the Christian is never alone and never merely on his own strength. The same Spirit who raised Jesus lives in you. That dignifies the body, it comforts the lonely, and it sobers us — we do not carry God’s presence into anything we would be ashamed to bring before Him.
Kielelezo. Humwoni kamwe Roho; unaona maisha yaliyokuwa yamekufa yakianza kusogea kumwelekea Mungu. Ndivyo unavyojua kwamba Yeye yupo.Illustration. Wind is invisible, yet you see the sail fill and the boat move. You never see the Spirit; you see the life that was dead begin to move toward God. That is how you know He is there.
Halionekani, lakini matokeo yake hayakosei — linafaa kwa kuhubiri kazi ya Roho iliyofichika lakini iliyo halisi.💡 Wind and breath: the same word in Scripture means wind, breath, and Spirit (ruach, pneuma). Unseen, but its effect is unmistakable — good for preaching the Spirit’s hidden, real work.
Humjaribu mtu huyo. Unamsikiliza Roho, ili uone mahali ambapo Yeye amekwisha kuwa.💡 The Spirit Goes Ahead of You: Early in my ministry I once pressed and pressed to win a man to Christ when the Holy Spirit was not at work in him. I may have gotten a convert that day — but God did not. What I learned has shaped every conversation since: the Holy Spirit is already working in a person long before I ever open my mouth. By the time I speak, that person has either already been moved by the Spirit, or has already decided to tune Him out. So now, when I meet someone, I will often say early and plainly, “I’m a pastor.” That one sentence tells me a great deal. If the person brushes it aside, changes the subject, or drifts away, I have learned not to take it personally — they have not rejected me; they have, for now, turned from the Spirit. But if a flicker of interest shows, I can invite them to church, where there is room to say more; and if the interest is real, I can ask about their walk with the Lord. Being a pastor gives me an easy way to say it, but you do not need the title — you can mention your church, or simply tell what knowing Christ has done in your life, and then watch. You are not testing the person. You are listening for the Spirit, to see where He has already been.

Siku ya 5 — Maelezo ya Ufundi na MuhtasariDay 5 — Craft Notes and Summary

Tahadhari mbili. Two cautions. Preach the Spirit toward Christ, not toward the self. Jesus said the Spirit “will testify of Me”; a sermon on the Spirit that ends in the hearer’s experience rather than in Christ has lost its compass. Guard both ditches. One ditch ignores the Spirit entirely; the other makes Him a spectacle. Preach Him as the Person who applies all of Christ’s work to the believer. Then arc to response: the indwelling Spirit is offered to everyone who trusts Christ, and the call is to walk in step with Him.

So Unit 7 ran the template again: who the Spirit is, the lean backbone (ST Unit 4), subject and interrogative and keyword, four texted works, one developed by E-A-I, and an arc to response. Unit 8 takes up salvation — the whole golden chain the Spirit applies.

"Tukiishi kwa Roho, na tuenende kwa Roho." — Wagalatia 5:25 (SUV)"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." — Galatians 5:25 (NKJV)

Certificate track: the 20 multiple-choice questions. Associate: multiple choice and the 10 fill-in-the-blank questions. M.Div. and Th.M.: multiple choice, fill-ins and the 10 short-answer questions. 90% of each part is required to pass. If you do not pass, the exam waits a short time before you can try again.
