The Certificate track answers the multiple choice. The Associate adds the fill-in-the-blank questions; M.Div. and Th.M. add those and the short-answer questions. 90% of each part is required to pass.
Learning Goal
After studying this unit you will be able to apply the keyword approach from the first seven units of WiseSpeak to modern situations and overcome the most common challenges faced by evangelistic preachers today.
Modern Applications of Evangelistic Preaching
The world has changed, but the gospel has not. People still need Christ. The keyword method taught in the first seven units of WiseSpeak still works perfectly in modern culture. This keeps the sermon biblical, unified, and easy to remember even when the audience is distracted by technology, busy schedules, and skeptical minds.
Modern applications mean taking the timeless truths of Scripture and showing how they speak directly to today's questions. A sermon on salvation can address anxiety, addiction, broken families, or the search for meaning. The invitation and appeal remain urgent because eternity has not changed.
Common Challenges Evangelistic Preachers Face Today
Every evangelistic preacher meets the same obstacles in the modern world. The keyword approach helps us face them head-on. Here are the seven most common challenges and how the keyword method overcomes them.
The Seven Common Challenges
The Keyword Approach in Modern Applications
The keyword approach works the same way in every modern setting. The objective always aims at a decision for Christ.
Modern Example — Matthew 11:28–29
Subject: Three Sources of True Rest
- Source One: Come to Jesus.
- Source Two: Take His yoke.
- Source Three: Learn from Him.
The sermon speaks directly to modern stress and burnout.
Modern Example — Philippians 4:6–7
Subject: Three Practices for Peace
- Practice One: Pray with thanksgiving.
- Practice Two: Present your requests.
- Practice Three: Receive God's peace.
The sermon feels relevant to today's anxiety epidemic.
Overcoming Challenges with the Keyword Method
Each of the seven challenges meets the same answer: one clear keyword, short parallel points drawn straight from the text, and a specific objective. The keyword method from the first seven units of WiseSpeak is the tool that turns every modern challenge into an opportunity.
Practical Steps for Modern Applications
Choose a text that speaks to a real modern need, and write the probing question in today's language. Then build the outline as in every earlier unit, and prepare the invitation and appeal for today's listener.
Self-Check — Unit 10
Certificate track: the 20 multiple-choice questions. Associate: multiple choice and the 10 fill-in-the-blank questions. M.Div. and Th.M.: multiple choice, fill-ins and the 10 short-answer questions. 90% of each part is required to pass. If you do not pass, the exam waits a short time before you can try again.
Short Answer (M.Div. / Th.M. tracks only)
M.Div. and Th.M.: all five assigned readings are part of the course. Their separate exam is required after activation; see its page for the current rule. Honors remains optional and does not replace the exam.
