Tunachohifadhi.

Utangulizi — Ufalme Hukua kwa Kuzidisha, Si kwa KujumlishaIntroduction — The Kingdom Grows by Multiplication, Not Addition

There are two kinds of math, and a church can be built on either one. The first is addition: the pastor works hard, the church grows by the souls his own two hands can reach, and when he is gone the growth stops with him. The second is multiplication: the pastor pours himself into others who pour themselves into still others, and the work spreads far beyond anything one man could touch and keeps spreading after he is dead. We saw the seed of this back in Unit 4, in Paul's word to Timothy — entrust the truth "to faithful men who will be able to teach others also" (2 Timothy 2:2), four generations of ministry in a single breath. Now we follow that principle out to its full reach: a leader who thinks beyond himself, beyond his lifetime, beyond his own church. The truest test of a leader is not the size of the crowd he gathers but whether the work outlives him. This unit is about building things that do.

I. Agizo Kuu Ni Amri ya Kuzaa WengineI. The Great Commission Is a Command to Reproduce

Go back to the marching orders the risen Lord left His church, and read them as the multiplication command they are. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them... teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19–20). Notice what He did not say. He did not say "make converts" and stop there. He said make disciples — and a disciple, by definition, is one who is taught to obey "all things," which includes this very command to go and make disciples.

Do you see the built-in multiplication? A true disciple is someone who makes other disciples. If you only win converts, you add. If you make disciples who make disciples, you multiply, and the kingdom spreads like a living thing reproducing after its kind. This is the difference between a ministry that fills seats and a ministry that reproduces leaders. The pastor who measures success only by how many gathered to hear him has misread the Commission. The Lord did not commission a performance; He commissioned a chain reaction. Make disciples who make disciples — that is the engine the whole kingdom runs on.

Bwana hakuagiza onyesho; aliagiza mwitikio wa mnyororo. The Lord did not commission a performance; He commissioned a chain reaction.
Mimi nilikabidhi tu kile nilichokabidhiwa; ukuaji ulikuwa wa Mungu.I have watched this chain run with my own eyes. In a prison where I served, God sent me men He had called to ministry inside those walls. I could have kept the work in my own hands; instead we built the training they needed, one program and then another, so they could be equipped to teach. They began to disciple other inmates, and those men discipled still others. Two I will never forget: one went on to earn a doctorate and teaches in a seminary today; another serves as a chaplain in a prison like the one where we met. The work did not stay with me — it ran on past me, and that is the whole point. I only handed on what had been handed to me; the increase was God's.

II. Kanisa Linalotuma: Mfano wa AntiokiaII. A Sending Church: The Pattern of Antioch

Na kanisa "likawaacha waende zao" (Matendo 13:3).Now watch a healthy church behave the way the Commission intends, and let it correct a deep instinct in us. The church at Antioch was strong — gifted teachers, a thriving fellowship, everything a pastor would want to keep. And the Holy Spirit said: "Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them" (Acts 13:2). Read who that was. Barnabas and Saul — not the two men the church could most easily spare, but its two best, its finest teachers. And the church "sent them away" (Acts 13:3).

Kanisa lisilokubali kuwaachilia watu wake wenye karama ili wapande makanisa, waende, waanzishe kitu mahali pengine, ni kanisa linalofanya kujumlisha wakati Mungu analiita kuzidisha. Washike watu wako bora kwa mkono ulio wazi. Wale ambao kuwatuma kunakugharimu zaidi kwa kawaida ndio hasa wale ambao Mungu anakusudia kuwatuma. Here is the instinct the Spirit had to overcome, and He must overcome it in us too: every church wants to keep its best people. We hoard our strongest leaders, our most gifted teachers, because letting them go feels like loss. But a healthy church is a sending church, and sending always costs. Antioch gave away its best and was not weakened; it became the launching point of the gospel's spread across the world. A church that will not release its gifted people to plant, to go, to start something elsewhere, is a church practicing addition when God is calling it to multiply. Hold your best people with an open hand. The ones it costs you most to send are usually exactly the ones God means to send.

— Matendo 13:2 (SUV)"Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." — Acts 13:2 (NKJV)

III. Panda, Kisha KabidhiIII. Plant, and Then Entrust

When Paul planted churches, watch what he did not do: he did not make himself permanently indispensable. He preached, he won disciples, and then, with remarkable speed and trust, he handed the churches over to local leaders. "So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed" (Acts 14:23). And to Titus he left the standing assignment: "set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I had commanded you" (Titus 1:5).

Kazi inayoweza kuishi tu ukiwa nawe haikupandwa kikamilifu kamwe. This is the discipline that separates a church planter from a mere gatherer. The goal of planting is not a congregation permanently dependent on its founder; it is a self-governing, self-sustaining body with its own raised-up leaders. Paul planted to leave. He appointed elders, commended them to the Lord, and moved on, trusting God and the leaders he had developed. A missionary or planter who cannot bring himself to hand the work over has not finished planting — he has built a monument to himself that will collapse the day he leaves. Plant the church, raise up its leaders, entrust it to them and to the Lord, and go. The work that can only survive with you was never fully planted.

IV. Chembe ya Ngano Haina Budi KuangukaIV. The Grain of Wheat Must Fall

There is a cost under all of this that we must name honestly, because multiplication asks a leader to die a little. The Lord stated the law of all fruitfulness in one image: "unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain" (John 12:24). The seed that insists on staying a seed, whole and intact and safe, "remains alone." Only the seed willing to be buried and broken open multiplies into a harvest.

Apply it to the leader. As long as you cling to being the one who is needed, the one who does it, the one at the center, you remain alone — impressive, perhaps, but barren of any fruit that will outlast you. The multiplying leader accepts a kind of death: the death of his own indispensability, the death of the applause that comes from doing it all himself, the death of control. He lets others rise, even others who will surpass him. He decreases so the work may increase. This is why so few leaders truly multiply — not because they lack the skill, but because they cannot bear the dying. Be the grain willing to fall. The harvest is on the far side of that surrender, and there is no other road to it.

— Yohana 12:24 (SUV)"Unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." — John 12:24 (NKJV)

V. Urithishaji wa Uongozi: Kazi Huishi Kuliko Mtenda KaziV. Succession: The Work Outlives the Worker

Sasa tunakuja kwenye somo ambalo viongozi wengi hulikwepa mpaka inapokuwa kuchelewa mno: nani atakuja baada yako. Now to the subject most leaders avoid until it is too late: who comes after you. Scripture treats succession as a mark of faithfulness, not a threat to be feared, and it gives us models to follow. Moses did not pretend he would lead forever. At God's direction he laid his hands on Joshua, gave him a public commissioning before all the people, and poured his authority into him so the nation would not be "as sheep which have no shepherd" (Numbers 27:17). When Moses died, the work did not die; Joshua led on, because Moses had prepared him.

Panga makabidhiano. Kazi haina budi kuishi kuliko mtenda kazi.See it again with Elijah, who threw his mantle over Elisha and walked with him until the day it passed fully to the younger man, who carried on the prophetic work with a doubled portion. See it in David, who would not build the temple himself, yet spent his last energy gathering the materials and charging his son: "Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear" (1 Chronicles 28:20) — preparing with all his heart for a work he knew another would complete. There is the pattern. The faithful leader prepares his successor deliberately, while there is still time: he identifies the next generation, invests in them, gives them real responsibility before he is gone, and hands off the work in an orderly way. The leader who makes no provision for who comes after him has not protected the church; he has gambled it on his own immortality, and that is a bet every man loses. Plan the handoff. The work must outlive the worker.

VI. Yeye Hana Budi Kuzidi, Mimi KupunguaVI. He Must Increase, I Must Decrease

Wafuasi wake mwenyewe walipohangaika kwamba umati ulikuwa ukimwacha na kumfuata Yesu, Yohana alijibu bila chembe ya huzuni: "Yeye hana budi kuzidi, bali mimi kupungua" (Yohana 3:30).What spirit makes a man able to do all this — to send his best, to entrust the church to others, to fall like a grain of wheat, to prepare the one who will replace him? It is the spirit of John the Baptist, who said the freest words a leader ever spoke. As his own followers fretted that the crowds were leaving him for Jesus, John answered without a trace of grief: "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30).

Yeye hana budi kuzidi. Sisi hatuna budi kupungua. Hiyo si kushindwa kwa huduma. Ni taji la mafanikio yake. There is the heart of the multiplying, planting, succession-minded leader. He has settled, deep down, that the work is not about him. He measures success not by his own increase but by the increase of the kingdom and the rising of others — even when their rising means his own fading from the center. The insecure leader clings, controls, and refuses to develop anyone who might eclipse him, and so his work dies with him. The free leader gives himself away, raises up those who will surpass him, and rejoices to decrease so that Christ and His church may increase. Build with that spirit, brother. Make disciples who make disciples. Send your best. Plant and entrust. Fall like the grain. Prepare the one who follows you. And when the day comes that the work is thriving in younger hands and needs you less and less, do not grieve it as loss — receive it as the very fruit you were laboring for all along. He must increase. We must decrease. That is not the failure of a ministry. It is its crowning success.
