No one was meant to follow Christ alone. The God who saves us does not save us into isolation; He saves us into a body and into a family. The disciplines we have studied so far — walking with God, devotion, prayer, the Word, self-discipline — are deeply personal, but they were never meant to be private. From the beginning God said, "It is not good that man should be alone" (Genesis 2:18, NKJV), and the same is true in the life of the Spirit. We are saved one by one, but we are saved into one another. This unit takes up two gifts our individualistic age has nearly forgotten: Christian community and loving accountability.
When a person trusts Christ, he is joined not only to the Lord but to all who belong to the Lord. Paul says it plainly: "Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually" (1 Corinthians 12:27, NKJV). A hand cannot say to the eye, "I have no need of you." Each member is necessary, and each belongs to the rest: "so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another" (Romans 12:5, NKJV). To be a Christian and to despise the people of God is a contradiction. We do not attend the body; we are the body.
Because we belong to one another, Scripture commands us not to drift away from the gathered church. "And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching" (Hebrews 10:24–25, NKJV). The first church gave itself to this without reserve: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers" (Acts 2:42, NKJV). The local church is not optional equipment for the strong Christian; it is the ordinary place where God grows His people.
The New Testament is full of commands that cannot be obeyed alone. We are to love one another, serve one another, forgive one another, encourage one another, and bear with one another. Our Lord made love the badge of His followers: "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you... By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:34–35, NKJV). Every "one another" assumes that we are close enough to one another to obey it.
Accountability simply means that believers lovingly watch over one another's walk with God — encouraging, praying, and gently correcting. Centuries ago John Wesley gathered believers into small "class meetings" where they regularly asked one another a simple question: how is it with your soul? Baptists keep our own convictions, but the idea is sound and biblical: a few trusted believers who know us and will ask the honest questions. When someone stumbles, the command is gentle: "Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness... Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ" (Galatians 6:1–2, NKJV). The Word tells us to be open with one another: "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed" (James 5:16, NKJV). And it tells us why we need each other: "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend" (Proverbs 27:17, NKJV). "Two are better than one... And a threefold cord is not quickly broken" (Ecclesiastes 4:9, 12, NKJV).
We hold the priesthood of all believers: "But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood" (1 Peter 2:9, NKJV). Every believer has direct access to God through Christ, so we confess our sin first to God, and we may also confess to trusted brothers and sisters for prayer and healing — but never to a man as a required mediator. And accountability must always wear the face of love. It is voluntary, mutual, and tender. The moment it becomes harsh control, suspicion, or gossip, it has stopped being the gentle restoring of Galatians 6 and become something the Spirit never asked for. Guard one another; do not police one another.
We cannot grow well alone, because God made us members of a body who need one another to grow. Find your place in a faithful church. Open your life to a few believers who will love you enough to tell you the truth. The foundation of all of it is not fear, nor duty, nor the wish to control, but the grace of God in Christ — the grace that saved us one by one and then bound us together in love.

Las disciplinas que hemos estudiado — andar con Dios, la devoción, la oración, la Palabra, el dominio propio — son profundamente personales, pero nunca fueron pensadas para ser privadas. Desde el principio Dios dijo: "No es bueno que el hombre esté solo" (Génesis 2:18, RVG), y lo mismo es cierto en la vida del Espíritu. Somos salvados uno por uno, pero somos salvados los unos para los otros. Esta unidad trata dos dones que nuestra época individualista casi ha olvidado: la comunidad cristiana y la rendición de cuentas amorosa.
Cuando una persona confía en Cristo, queda unida no solo al Señor, sino a todos los que son del Señor. Pablo lo dice con claridad: "Vosotros, pues, sois el cuerpo de Cristo, y miembros en particular" (1 Corintios 12:27, RVG). La mano no puede decir al ojo: "No te necesito." Cada miembro es necesario, y cada uno pertenece a los demás: "así nosotros, siendo muchos, somos un cuerpo en Cristo, y todos miembros los unos de los otros" (Romanos 12:5, RVG). Ser cristiano y despreciar al pueblo de Dios es una contradicción. No asistimos al cuerpo; somos el cuerpo.
Porque pertenecemos los unos a los otros, la Escritura nos manda no apartarnos de la iglesia reunida. "Y considerémonos unos a otros para provocarnos al amor y a las buenas obras; no dejando de congregarnos, como algunos tienen por costumbre, sino exhortándonos; y tanto más, cuanto veis que aquel día se acerca" (Hebreos 10:24–25, RVG). La primera iglesia se entregó a esto sin reservas: "Y perseveraban en la doctrina de los apóstoles, y en la comunión, y en el partimiento del pan, y en las oraciones" (Hechos 2:42, RVG). La iglesia local no es un accesorio opcional para el cristiano fuerte; es el lugar ordinario donde Dios hace crecer a su pueblo.
El Nuevo Testamento está lleno de mandamientos que no se pueden obedecer a solas. Debemos amarnos unos a otros, servirnos, perdonarnos, exhortarnos y sobrellevarnos. Nuestro Señor hizo del amor la señal de los suyos: "Un mandamiento nuevo os doy: Que os améis unos a otros; como yo os he amado... En esto conocerán todos que sois mis discípulos, si tuviereis amor los unos con los otros" (Juan 13:34–35, RVG). Cada "unos a otros" supone que estamos lo bastante cerca unos de otros como para obedecerlo.
Rendir cuentas significa sencillamente que los creyentes velan con amor por el andar de los demás con Dios — animando, orando y corrigiendo con mansedumbre. Hace siglos, Juan Wesley reunía a los creyentes en pequeñas "clases" donde con regularidad se preguntaban unos a otros algo sencillo: ¿cómo está tu alma? Los bautistas guardamos nuestras propias convicciones, pero la idea es sana y bíblica: unos pocos creyentes de confianza que nos conozcan y nos hagan las preguntas honestas. Cuando alguno tropieza, el mandato es suave: "Hermanos, si alguno fuere tomado en alguna falta, vosotros que sois espirituales, restauradle con espíritu de mansedumbre... Sobrellevad los unos las cargas de los otros, y cumplid así la ley de Cristo" (Gálatas 6:1–2, RVG). La Palabra nos dice que seamos abiertos: "Confesaos vuestras faltas unos a otros, y orad los unos por los otros, para que seáis sanados" (Santiago 5:16, RVG). Y nos dice por qué nos necesitamos: "Hierro con hierro se aguza; y el hombre aguza el rostro de su amigo" (Proverbios 27:17, RVG). "Mejores son dos que uno... y cordón de tres dobleces no presto se rompe" (Eclesiastés 4:9, 12, RVG).
Sostenemos el sacerdocio de todos los creyentes: "Mas vosotros sois linaje escogido, real sacerdocio" (1 Pedro 2:9, RVG). Todo creyente tiene acceso directo a Dios por medio de Cristo; por eso confesamos nuestro pecado primero a Dios, y podemos también confesar a hermanos de confianza para oración y sanidad — pero nunca a un hombre como mediador obligatorio. Y la rendición de cuentas debe llevar siempre el rostro del amor. Es voluntaria, mutua y tierna. En el momento en que se vuelve control duro, sospecha o chisme, ha dejado de ser la restauración suave de Gálatas 6 para convertirse en algo que el Espíritu nunca pidió. Cuidaos los unos a los otros; no os vigiléis como policías.
No podemos crecer bien a solas, porque Dios nos hizo miembros de un cuerpo que se necesitan los unos a los otros para crecer. Halle su lugar en una iglesia fiel. Abra su vida a unos pocos creyentes que lo amen lo suficiente como para decirle la verdad. El fundamento de todo ello no es el temor, ni el deber, ni el deseo de controlar, sino la gracia de Dios en Cristo — la gracia que nos salvó uno por uno y luego nos unió en amor.
